They are known with different names such as Porcini in Italy, Varganya in Hungary, Borowik Szlachetny in Poland, Cepes in France and
Steinpilz in Germany.
In Greece, B edulis and B. reticulatus are known with different names such as Volitis, Vasiliko (in Grevena, Kozani, Kastoria), Vasila or
Vasilomanitaro (in Pilio), Vasilikara ( in Pieria). B. aereus is known as Kalogeraki, Kalogritsa, Kaloeratsi.
They are mushrooms, which are not arable because of the special fungal-root relations between them and the trees, like fir trees and chestnut trees.
In the Greek nature, they are collected during two periods, spring or summer and autumn.
These mushrooms, when dried, maintain strong aromas of the forest and hazelnut for a long time.
