Mount Helicon, one of Viotia mountains, with an altitude of 1748 meters has been famous by Greek mythology, as dancing Muses there inspired the ancient poet Hesiod to sing the dawning of the Gods; thus becoming an emblem of poetic inspiration. In one of Mount Helicon’s peaks, called the “the Muses mountain”, at an altitude over 1000 meters is where Emmelia fir tree honey is produced.
In Greece it represents around 5-10% of total honey production. It stems mainly from the Physokermes hemicryphus insect in the Greek fir (Abies Cephalonica).
